Reason # 2 The Life of Jesus in You Will Become the Life of Jesus in Others

The Doorman Saved My Life

I gave my life to Jesus when I was 12 years old. But I had a very religious idea of God.  I learned a list of things I had to do and I soon found that I couldn’t do them. So I walked away from Christianity feeling discouraged, guilty and ashamed.

Twenty years later I was a practicing lawyer and a practicing alcoholic, living in Tallahassee, Florida. Carol, an ex-girlfriend, called.  She had been in an accident and needed help.  She was at Heritage USA, the Christian theme resort of Jim and Tammy Bakker. I almost laughed out loud.  They were in the middle of a national scandal at the time. I wouldn’t have gone there for a thousand dollars.  (Well, maybe for $2000; I was a lawyer, after all. Smile.)  But Carol really needed my help. So I got on a plane and went to Fort Mill, South Carolina.

Carol still believed in this ministry. I wasn’t impressed.  But there was something about the doorman at the Heritage Grand Hotel. He was tall and thin, an older man with a military bearing and a haircut to match.  Every time I went past him I felt something – deep down, in my heart. Again and again, as I went in and out of that hotel for two days until Carol could travel, I felt what I now know was the presence of God on that man.

Something deep inside me responded to that something deep inside Him.  Weeks, even months later, I couldn’t get that feeling out of my mind. Feeling the presence of God made me want more. It called out to me.  Less than a year later I came to really know Jesus.  Other people touched my life for God over that year. But the greatest influence that led me back to Jesus was that hotel doorman at a disgraced ministry.  A doorman whose name I do not know and with whom I had only “hello and goodbye” conversations.

The presence of God in His life became the presence of God in my life.

God Offered Angels.  Moses said, “No.  I won’t go without You.”

God offered Moses an angel to lead him into the promise land and to be with him and protect him. An angel! How many of us would be thrilled have angels showing up and walking with us every day.

But Moses wouldn’t settle for an angel.  He wouldn’t settle for anything less than God, himself. So God agreed.  Listen to their conversation.  This is a conversation you and I need to have with God every day.

[After Moses had asked God to go with him] God said, “I will personally go with you, Moses, and I will give you rest—everything will be fine for you.”

Then Moses said, “If you don’t personally go with us, don’t make us leave this place. How will anyone know that you look favorably on me—on me and on your people—if you don’t go with us? For your presence among us sets your people and me apart from all other people on the earth.”

The Lord replied to Moses, “I will indeed do what you have asked, for I look favorably on you, and I know you by name.”

Exodus 33: 14-17

For you to live as a true son, a true daughter of God you need to walk in his presence. You need to carry his presence.

When you carry the presence of God, people know it. Devils know it too. You can walk into a room and change the environment. I’ve walked into rooms and had demons manifest and eventually flee because of the presence of God in me.

The presence of God you carry will touch the hearts of people around you. Sometimes, just you being there will change people.  You need to have coffee with Jesus today so you can carry the presence of Jesus everywhere you go.  The life of God in you will become the life of God in others.
