God Gives Us Choices
God always gives us choices. He works within the framework of our choices. If we are open, He’ll show us what the choices before us are. Then he asks us to choose. We can choose His way or not.
- We can choose to pursue God with all our heart, mind, and strength – or not.
- We can choose to do what is right at any given moment – or not.
- We can choose to believe what He says or shows us – or not.
His heart is for us to choose the very best way – His way. He has a great plan for us. He has awesome gifts waiting for us along the path prepared for our lives. But if we choose another path, He doesn’t love us less. We may grieve Him. We may grieve His Holy Spirit, but He loves us no matter what we choose.
If we take wrong turns we won’t find the provision He has waiting for us. It is on another path. If we are willing to turn around (repent) we can get exactly what Father has waiting for us.
We may have to go over the same ground several times until we get on the right path. Israel spent 40 years in the desert to travel about 40 miles. They kept going in circles, trying to get on the right path. I’ve heard a lot of people marvel at that. How could they do that? Why couldn’t they just yield to God?
I know God said they would die in the desert because of their disobedience, but do you really think He wouldn’t have relented if they truly repented? In the Bible, God reversed judgment after judgment when people repented. Nineveh is a great example (read Jonah).
Good People, Wasted Potential
Yet, how many people we know waste their potential? Good people. Christian people who spend 70, 80, even 90 years wandering in circles, never finding the clear path God marked out for their lives.
I marvel at how patient God is with us. He seems to never give up. He tries to direct us to our life path again and again.
Choose
It all begins with a decision – one decision.
Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve…. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.
Joshua 24:15 (NIV)
“Say yes. Yes, I want all you have for me. I will pursue you.” Then take a step toward your destiny.
